Hosea

Learn From Your Past

  • The Conniving & Striving Jacob
  • The Deliverance Out of Egypt
  • The Cry for a King
  • History Lesson: Strive for Grace

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Hosea 11:12-13:16. In what ways does Israel sin against God? Why might they think they should face no judgment?
  2. How do these chapters speak to a culture that is “grasping”? A culture that prides itself on its self-reliance? A culture that is trying to create a secure future?
  3. What lessons do we learn from the historic examples of Jacob, the Exodus, and the cry for a king?
  4. Consider closely the example of Jacob (12:2-6). How is verse 6 a fitting “application” from this story?
  5. Grace is unmerited favor. Why or how should we speak about “striving” for grace? How can our efforts “bring” grace?
