Hebrews: The Greatness of Christ

It’s All About Jesus

  • We’re All Runners
  • God Gives the Running Legs
  • Jesus Already Finished the Race for Us

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Hebrews 12:1-2. What is “therefore” there for? In other words, what is the flow of the author’s argument? How does chapter 11 and all the precedes lead up to this 12:1?
  2. Why do New Testament writers use the “race” analogy? What does this analogy communicate about the Christian life?
  3. What does the author say we need to do in order to “run with endurance”? At the end of the day, is it our strength that enables us to run well? Explain.
  4. What do you do in your life to “lay aside” weight and sin? What keeps you from being more diligent in laying aside these things?
  5. For what purpose does the author state what he does about Jesus in verse 2? What difference does this make in our attempt to run well?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
