Judges: Life Without a King
God’s Extraordinary Patience with a Doubter
- Crisis Needs God’s Word
- The Fearful and Calming Presence of the Lord
- Repentance Always is the Necessary First Step
- The Need for Assurance Never Ends
Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Judges 6:1-40. Take note of Gideon’s actions and responses to the Lord. What stands out about Gideon? How would you describe him and his spiritual state in this chapter?
- What do we learn about the Lord in this chapter? Compare the Lord’s actions and responses with Exodus 34:6.
- Why does the Lord send a prophet when the people cry out (v. 7-8)? What does this say about our need for God’s word?
- Why is repentance (tearing down Baal’s altar) necessary for deliverance?
- How are you like Gideon? How has God graciously assured you of his grace?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Isaiah 59:1-2 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear. (ESV)
