God’s Extraordinary Patience with a Doubter

  • Crisis Needs God’s Word
  • The Fearful and Calming Presence of the Lord
  • Repentance Always is the Necessary First Step
  • The Need for Assurance Never Ends

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Judges 6:1-40. Take note of Gideon’s actions and responses to the Lord. What stands out about Gideon? How would you describe him and his spiritual state in this chapter?
  2. What do we learn about the Lord in this chapter? Compare the Lord’s actions and responses with Exodus 34:6.
  3. Why does the Lord send a prophet when the people cry out (v. 7-8)? What does this say about our need for God’s word?
  4. Why is repentance (tearing down Baal’s altar) necessary for deliverance?
  5. How are you like Gideon? How has God graciously assured you of his grace?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Isaiah 59:1-2 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear. (ESV)
