Judges: Life Without a King

Souls Without A Home

  • The Danites and Their Search for Land
  • Seeking Success
  • Made for Worship; Made for a King

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Judges 18:1-31. Look back to Judges 1:34. How would this chapter be different if Dan di what they were supposed to at the beginning?
  2. What is the significance of land? Consider Hebrews 4:8-10. How is land related to “rest” and Christ?
  3. Compare 18:5 with Joshua 1:8 and Psalm 1:3. The Hebrew word “succeed” in 18:5 is the same word used for “prosper” in these other passages. What was success in the Danites’ minds? What is success in God’s view?
  4. Verse 1 provides an overarching theme to this chapter. Why do we need a king? What kind of king do we need?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (ESV)
