The Sword of the Spirit

  • Recognizing “This Present Darkness”
  • Finding Strength Not In Ourselves
  • The Active Duty of Taking Up the Sword

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Ephesians 6:10-20. The word “finally” in verse 10 tells us that this is Paul’s conclusion to his letter to the Ephesians. How does this discussion on spiritual warfare wrap up all that he has taught in the letter so far?
  2. Consider verse 12. In what ways do you act as if “flesh and blood” are your real enemy? Why do we do this? Why do we lose sight of the “spiritual forces of evil,” with which we wrestle?
  3. To what or whom does Paul point for our strength and victory in this struggle? How do we draw from the strength of the Lord’s might (consider Eph. 1:18-19 and 3:14-21)?
  4. How does the sword of the Spirit help us in spiritual warfare? What is your “sword drill”? In what ways do you practice wielding this vital weapon?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. (ESV)
