Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read John 1:1-18. What do we learn about Jesus in these opening verses? About his identity? His nature? His character? His work?
- Compare verse 7 with John 20:31. What is John’s mission? How does he accomplish this? How is our mission similar? Different?
- Which John is spoken about in verse 6? Can it be more than one John? Why or why not?
- The call to action throughout this gospel is to “believe.” What does it mean to “believe”? Is this a work? Why or why not? Compare with the Westminster Shorter Catechism question 86. Are you ever done “believing”? How do you sustain believing?
Memory Verse of the Week:
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (ESV)
