Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Psalm 121. What sort of life circumstances would this psalm apply to the most? Have you ever drawn encouragement from this psalm? In what circumstances?
- Why does the psalmist lift his eyes to the hills? What is the significance of the hills?
- What does the psalmist emphasize about God and his nature? How do these truths bolster confidence in his help?
- Take note of the use of the word “keep.” In the OT, this word can mean to observe (i.e. to keep a commandment) or to guard (i.e. to protect). What does it mean that the Lord is your keeper?
- Think about and/or discuss verse 7, in particular the words “all evil.” What does this verse promise? Read the reflection on page 3. How does this apply?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Psalm 121:1-2 I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. (ESV)
