Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read John 3:31-36. What is the connection between this passage and what John the Baptist just said?
- How does one grow in humility? Why does a focus on self not help in the pursuit of humility?
- What does this passage say about the supremacy of Christ?
- Consider verse 34. Why is this statement about Jesus so significant? Compare Jesus with others who speak for God.
- In light of the supremacy of Christ, why is one’s response to Jesus the dividing line between life and wrath? Why would John speak about eternal life as a present experience (the verb in v. 36 is in the present tense, “has eternal life”)?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Matthew 17:5 “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” (ESV)
