- The Deeper Sickness
- The Call of Grace and Truth
Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read John 5:1-18. Where does Jesus go when he arrives in Jerusalem? What does this say about Jesus? How should we follow his example?
- What do we learn about this man who was an invalid for 38 years? Is he easy to like or not like? Why?
- Recalling Jesus’ interactions with Nicodemus and the woman at the well, does Jesus merely want to heal this man’s sickness? What does Jesus want for this man?
- What are the religious leaders upset about? What does this reveal about their “religion” and understanding of God?
- Consider Jesus’ words to the man in verse 14. How does this statement demonstrate grace and truth? How does Jesus want the man to respond?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Isaiah 35:4 Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.” (ESV)
