John: That You May Believe

Controversy at the Feast

  • Question His Teaching
  • Question His Adherence to the Law
  • Question His Birthplace
  • Question His Signs

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read John 7:11-31. The identity of Jesus is the center of the controversy. What are some of the reasons the Jews or the crowd doubted that Jesus is the Messiah? How about you? If you have had doubts about Jesus, what have been your reasons?
  2. How does Jesus respond so as to affirm his identity as the one sent by God?
  3. Read Deuteronomy 18:15-20. What does God promise in this passage? How does Jesus fulfill this promise? What is the warning in this passage?
  4. Consider verse 17. Who is the one who wants “to do God’s will”? What connection is there with John 6:28-29?
  5. What has convinced you that Jesus is your Savior and Lord? How can you help another come to faith in Christ?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Psalm 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! (ESV)
