John: That You May Believe

The Love of Christ & Suffering

  • What is Love?
  • What is God’s Aim in my Suffering?
  • How Then Shall We Live?

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read John 11:1-16. What is Jesus’ relationship with the three siblings?
  2. Consider the logic between verses 5 & 6. What does the conjunction “so” at the beginning of verse 6 communicate?
  3. What would we consider to be a normal response of love to the news of someone’s illness? How is Jesus’ response different?
  4. What is a biblical definition of love? What is the greatest thing that God’s love for us accomplishes?
  5. What does this passage teach us about God’s purposes in our suffering? How should we live in light of this truth?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. (ESV)
