John: That You May Believe

Your King is Coming

  • The Triumphant King
  • The Lowly King
  • The Growing Kingdom

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read John 12:12-19. Why do the crowds flock to Jesus? Why don’t the threats of the religious leaders keep people away (cf. 9;22; 11:57)?
  2. Read the two Old Testament quotes in their context: Psalm 118:25-26 & Zechariah 9:9-11. What are the contexts speaking about? How are these two passages different from each other?
  3. In what ways is Jesus a triumphant king right now? In what ways are we still waiting for his triumph? In what ways is he a gentle, lowly king?
  4. The religious leaders are opposed to Jesus, but Jesus’ following continues to grow. What does this reveal about the growth of the Church? How should we be encourage by this?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. (ESV)
