1. Read John 13:1-11. Why does Peter state to strongly that Jesus must never wash his feet? In what way is this humility? In what way is this pride?
2. What does the foot washing symbolize in verse 8? Why can one have no share in Christ unless Christ washes him?
3. What is wrong with Peter’s response in verse 9? In what way is this humility? In what way is this pride?
4. Does Jesus apply the symbol of foot washing differently in verse 10? Explain.
5. Read 1 John 1:5-2:2. How might this passage help us understand the foot washing on John 13?
