That Which Shapes Us
The Participation Award
- Participation in the Blood; Participation in the Body
- Participants with Demons?
- Communion as a Flee from Idolatry
Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read 1 Corinthians 10:14-22. This paragraph comes in the middle of an extended discussion about idolatry. If you have time, read also chapter 8 and 10:1-13.
- What does Paul say about communion? The word “participation” (v. 16) is the Greek word koinonia, fellowship, which is the sharing with someone in something. In what are we sharing when we partake of communion?
- How does Paul use the spiritual reality of communion to confront idolatry?
- What does idolatry look like today? How is communion an antidote and countermeasure to idolatry?
Memory Verse of the Week:
1 Corinthians 10:16 The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? (ESV)
