The Foundation for Godliness
- A Calling
- A Promise
- An Assurance
Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Titus 1:1-4. How does Paul identify himself? What connection is there between Paul’s identity and purpose?
- How do Christians in the West tend to define “godliness”? Is it similar to or different to Paul’s understanding?
- What does the Christian’s “hope of eternal life” rest upon (v.2)? By what means does God assure us of this (v.3)?
- In v.4, Paul refers to Titus as his “true child in a common faith.” How might this example inform us about Christian fellowship and co-laboring together for Christ?
- Paul’s high view of Christ’s deity is evident in this opening greeting. What are some of the verses that this can be seen?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Titus 1:1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness (ESV)
