The Foundation for Godliness

Titus: Godliness in All of Life

The Foundation for Godliness

  • A Calling
  • A Promise
  • An Assurance

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Titus 1:1-4. How does Paul identify himself? What connection is there between Paul’s identity and purpose?
  2. How do Christians in the West tend to define “godliness”? Is it similar to or different to Paul’s understanding?
  3. What does the Christian’s “hope of eternal life” rest upon (v.2)? By what means does God assure us of this (v.3)?
  4. In v.4, Paul refers to Titus as his “true child in a common faith.” How might this example inform us about Christian fellowship and co-laboring together for Christ?
  5. Paul’s high view of Christ’s deity is evident in this opening greeting. What are some of the verses that this can be seen?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Titus 1:1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness (ESV)
