Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Titus 1:5-9. For what purpose was Titus left in Crete?
- Are the characteristics that Paul lists in these verses a “special” list that only pertains to the elders? How does this list help to further your understanding of what godliness in all of life means or looks like?
- What are some ways, in these verses, that the elders are implicitly tied to Christ’s care for His church and people? In what ways can you thank God this week for the elders at Oak Hills? In what ways can you pray for them?
- Read and reflect on 1 Peter 2:24-25. Peter points to Christ as the true Shepherd and Overseer over His people. In what ways does the truth that Christ is the perfect Elder, Overseer, and Shepherd over your soul comfort, encourage, and challenge you?
Memory Verse of the Week:
1 Peter 2:24-25 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. (ESV)
