A Plan to End Sin

  • The Background to the Answer
  • The Central Focus of the Answer
  • The Ambiguities of the Answer

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Daniel 9:20-27. What do we learn about God and answers to prayer in verses 20-23? What is the significance of Daniel being told that he is “greatly loved” (v. 23)?
  2. We saw last week the Jeremiah inspired Daniel’s prayer. How might the answer Gabriel brings to Daniel in this passage be a fulfillment of promises in Jeremiah, like 31:31-34 and 33:14-16?
  3. What or who is the central focus of this answer to Daniel’s prayer? In particular, look at the six goal statements in verse 24. Who or what accomplishes that?
  4. What are the ambiguities in verses 24-27? How should Christians handle such ambiguities in Scripture?
  5. What comfort does this prophecy give Christians? How ought Christians live in light of these verses?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Galatians 4:4-5 When the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. (ESV)
