Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Ephesians 2:8-10. Paul repeats the phrase “by grace you are saved” from verse 5. Why does he repeat this phrase? What does he want to emphasize?
  2. What is a gift of God? Why does Paul state “this” is not of our own doing nor of works?
  3. In what way are we the workmanship of God, created in Christ Jesus? Is every human the workmanship of God in this way?
  4. Verse 9 says we are not saved as “a result of works,” but verse 10 says we are saved “for good works.” What distinction about works is Paul emphasizing?
  5. Compare Ephesians 2:10 with Romans 6:4. In what do we walk? What does the resurrection have to do with good works?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. (ESV)
