Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Ephesians 2:8-10. Paul repeats the phrase “by grace you are saved” from verse 5. Why does he repeat this phrase? What does he want to emphasize?
- What is a gift of God? Why does Paul state “this” is not of our own doing nor of works?
- In what way are we the workmanship of God, created in Christ Jesus? Is every human the workmanship of God in this way?
- Verse 9 says we are not saved as “a result of works,” but verse 10 says we are saved “for good works.” What distinction about works is Paul emphasizing?
- Compare Ephesians 2:10 with Romans 6:4. In what do we walk? What does the resurrection have to do with good works?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. (ESV)
