Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Ecclesiastes 7:15-29. How are the Preacher’s observations and conclusions not a contradiction to what we read in Psalms, Proverbs, and the rest of Scripture?
  2. What issue is the Preacher wrestling with in V. 15-18? How does the world try to provide an answer? How does the Preacher present for us a better and biblical answer or response?
  3. A constant theme throughout a book like Ecclesiastes is true wisdom. What is one area about human wisdom that the world fails to mention that the Preacher draws our attention to in V. 19-24?
  4. In V. 26, the Preacher brings to light something more bitter than death! What is that? Why does he go so far to say that it is more bitter than death? In what ways is the Preacher pointing us to Christ, who himself is the Truth that sets us free?
  5. How does this section of Ecclesiastes wisely draw our hearts to hope in the gospel of Jesus Christ alone?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Matthew 16:25 “For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” (ESV)
