Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Ephesians 4:7-12. After emphasizing the unity of the church in verses 1-6, why does Paul turn his attention to diversity? Where does this diversity exist?
  2. What do we learn about gifts in this passage? Compare with Paul’s teaching in Romans 12:3-8 and 1 Corinthians 12:4-11.
  3. What is the nature of the gifts mentioned in verse 11? What is the significance of this?
  4. Why does Jesus give gifts to the church? Are you gifted by Jesus? For what purpose? Are you using your gifting for Jesus’ expressed purpose?
  5. What is the “work of ministry” in verse 12? Compare with Philippians 1:27. How does unity and diversity work together for the “work of ministry”? What role does the church institutional, and her ministers, play?
