Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Ephesians 4:7-12. After emphasizing the unity of the church in verses 1-6, why does Paul turn his attention to diversity? Where does this diversity exist?
- What do we learn about gifts in this passage? Compare with Paul’s teaching in Romans 12:3-8 and 1 Corinthians 12:4-11.
- What is the nature of the gifts mentioned in verse 11? What is the significance of this?
- Why does Jesus give gifts to the church? Are you gifted by Jesus? For what purpose? Are you using your gifting for Jesus’ expressed purpose?
- What is the “work of ministry” in verse 12? Compare with Philippians 1:27. How does unity and diversity work together for the “work of ministry”? What role does the church institutional, and her ministers, play?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Ephesians 4:11-12 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ. (ESV)
