Genesis: Foundations for Life
Created in God’s Image
- The Dignity of Humans
- The Duty of Humans
- The Deference for Humans
Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Genesis 1:26-31. Why is the creation of humans last? In what ways are humans like the rest of creation? In what ways are they different?
- What does it means to be made in the image of God? Consider also Ephesians 4:24 and Colossians 3:10.
- How does creation in God’s image impact human ethics? Consider Genesis 9:6 and James 3:9-10.
- What commands does God give humans in verse 28? This verse is often called the cultural mandate. How do we obey this mandate today?
- What special grace does God give humans and not to others in his creation? Consider Romans 8:29, 2 Corinthians 3:18, and Hebrews 2:16-17.
Memory Verse of the Week:
Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (ESV)
