The Estate of Sin and Misery

  • The Estate of Sin
  • The Estate of Misery
  • The Estate of Salvation

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Genesis 3:1-7 and Romans 5:12-21. How does Paul explain what happens in the Garden?
  2. Consider the last phrase of Romans 5:12, “because all sinned.” What is Paul teaching with this phrase? Be careful. Paul wants to teach the same thing about righteousness (see v. 18-19).
  3. Consider the WLC Questions on page 3 with the proof texts. What is the estate of sin? What is the estate of misery?
  4. Do the estates of sin and misery cover all that is wrong in the world? Are there any other sources of misery in the world than sin? Why or why not?
  5. Consider Romans 5:12-21 again. How does God bring sinners into an estate of salvation? How does this change our experience of the estates of sin and misery?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Romans 5:19 For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. (ESV)
